The
Municipal Center for History possesses today a rich archive
that consists of the Volos Municipality archive (1883-1982),
46 private archives concerning directly or indirectly the
city and its greater area, archives of old industrial enterprises,
as well as important material of building plans, maps, aerial
photos, transparencies and photos.
The
library of Volos's Municipal Center for History and Documentation
started operating in 1992, its aim being the collection,
administration, utilization and promotion of any kind or
form of printed documents.
The 19th En Volos issue features a special on the cinema,
which focuses on the places, the people, and relevant activity
of the past, a flourishing time for the cinema. The people
of the cinema are on the special's forefront; unfolding
their memories.
Their interviews and the articles by G.Pantelodimos and
Aimilios M.Souvatzis are complemented by rich archival and
photographic material, as well as a photographic presentation
of the places that were cinemas at one time and the survining
cinemas of our town.
Also presented are the activities of the Volos Cinema Club,
the New Ionia Cinema Club, and of the "Friends of the
Cinema" club, agents of preservation which, through
their activities, kept alive the interest for good cinema
in difficult times. Lastly, the special closes with the
theoritical and practical instruction on the art of cinema
by the "Camera" team of the "Diavlos"
youth center and the "Cinema in Education" presentation
by the 1st High School of New Ionia.
In the "Memento" column, the projection rooms
of old Volos Cinemas are presented, while the "Review"
column features the book "Mages Alistou Epohis -Dudes
of Unforgetable Times" with 24 "rebetika"
portraits including that of the Milanos family and of the
radio pioneer George Kontogiorgou.
The "Personalities" column is devoted to the attorney
Nick Kolovos, whose love for the cinema elevated him to
the forefront of cinematic activity in our town and distinguished
him as one of the most important Greek cinema theorists,
and of important athorship.
Lastly, the "Agenda" column records the cultural
activity of our town in the recent months, and what is scheduled
for the near future.
