library of Volos's Municipal Center for History and Documentation
started operating in 1992, its aim being the collection,
administration, utilization and promotion of any kind or
form of printed documents.
The publishing activity of the Municipal Center of Historical Research began in 1993, two years after its establishment. 30 publications in total, some of which have been out of print or withdrawn from the market, portray the content of its practice until today, which can be summed up as follows: researches concerning the physiognomy of Volos and its area, minute book of events, monographies of wide interest, educational programs, production of digital media (CD) as well as promotion and utilization of the rich material of its archives.
The publication aspects that are mainly of
interest to the Municipal History Center are:
minutes of various meetings, exhibitions etc.
relevant to the physiognomy of the town and the surrounding
topics of wider interest
Significant development of the "Volos publications" has occurred since the publication of "En Volo", the Municipality quarterly periodical, first printed in 2001. The Municipality, in cooperation with external associates, has created a publication with content and design constituting a reference point of the city, a publication that has nothing to do with analogous ones of the regional press, given its regularity of circulation for six years now.
The publication of "En Volo" magazine called for the creation of an organized publishing section within DIKI, equipped with technological and human potential substructure able to cope with all the complex requirements of such a modern quality publication.
The publishing department is in position to offer its services to the Municipality on the whole spectrum of its publishing needs. It can also cope with any private or public editing requirement on the sectors of creation, editing and printing, thus broadening its activities beyond the confines of an enterprise with strictly municipal aim.
