The
Municipal Center for History possesses today a rich archive
that consists of the Volos Municipality archive (1883-1982),
46 private archives concerning directly or indirectly the
city and its greater area, archives of old industrial enterprises,
as well as important material of building plans, maps, aerial
photos, transparencies and photos.
The
library of Volos's Municipal Center for History and Documentation
started operating in 1992, its aim being the collection,
administration, utilization and promotion of any kind or
form of printed documents.
Operation
Regulations of the Reading Room and the Lending of Books
The library services (information search and lending) are
free of charge.
The library's venue is available for reading and information
search, with the help and advice of the reading room manager.
Access is allowed only to the predetermined areas. Users
of the reading room are not allowed to replace the books
on the shelves.
It is not necessary to be a member to be allowed to read
and search for information.
It is advised not to consume food and drinks inside the
library.
An identification card or any other official document certifying
identity is essential for membership registration and borrowing
books. Minors can register as members of the library the
relevant documents provided by their parents.
Each member can borrow two (2) books for fifteen (15) days,
with the possibility to renew the lending 15 days.
The lending section of the library is housed in a separate
area and it includes books of literature and popularized
psychology in Greek, English, French, German and Italian.
No other part of the collection can be lent or moved from
the library.
The library can deny membership to individuals that repeatedly
damage or delay to return books. It can also request replacement
of books lost or destroyed.
A maximum of 20 photocopies is allowed, under the librarian's
supervision, depending on the condition of the documents.
Photographic cameras or scanners are not allowed inside
the library.
It is forbidden to photocopy encyclopedias and rare books
in order to avoid damage.
The cost of photocopies inside the library is 0.06 euros
per page.
